HENRY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS VOTE TO REMOVE CONFEDERATE MONUMENT IN APPARENT VIOLATION OF SB77

In spite of Georgia having enshrined monument protection into law last year in SB 77, Henry County's Board of Commissioners voted yesterday to thumb its nose at Georgia law and to remove the Confederate Monument from the McDonough Square. In so doing, the commissioners have invited lawsuits which will almost certainly cost the taxpayers of Henry County thousands of dollars... and lawsuits which the county is almost certain to lose. Additionally, commissioners voting to remove the statue may possibly face criminal misdemeanor charges for apparently violating SB 77.

It should be up to the voters. Our history belongs to all of us, not any one individual or group of individuals who lack the ability to think, reason or to rationalize past their own self-importance and insecurities. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP.

Here is the issue, the monument was purchased with private funds by the Col Zachry UDC. The law only applies to publicly owned monuments: such as the Gordon monument on the capitol grounds. Since the McDonough one was purchased privately it can not be protected and is in legal limbo.

About time to vote new commissioners in, they seem to forget who put them there.

One commissioner asked them to wait until everyone was there to vote but they refused. Dee Clemmons was the one who requested it be done. The same person who caused all the trouble for Nash Farm several years ago.

Election time to evict them from their seats I think it is time to do an audit on therir cars credit cards an a good look through their offices an see their call logs

The SOBs should face criminal charges

Can Henry County Citizens spell RECALL VOTE.

It is what it is. If you dont like it there " MOVE "

This is ridiculous!

Yes, these commissioners should be held accountable for their treasonous actions.

About 3 years ago Pete said: I wonder how long until the statues in McDonough come down. Now we know. I wonder if it’s better they come down this way than allowing those despicable protesters come in, destroy the statues and then loot and destroy the square. 😭😭😭😭

Remember the names of the Commissioners that voted to do this without giving "We, The People" a say in this matter ... Remember on election days.

I just say. After all this stuff is happening. I believe some folks have lost their marbles. It's hard to just think all this is happening must less seeing it. I believe God will awaken some people and they will find their blocks have been knocked from underneath them.

Yet there are monuments for the communist Beatles nearby. I say those are the real issue in Henry County

All citizens need to stand up, surround that statue to protect it, & REFUSE to let them tear it down! STAND UP PEOPLE! DEFEND OUR HERITAGE!

Yep, this is Treason !! This should not happen !! Our politicians are screwing us !!

I hope the ones that voted for it gets hit with everything the law can throw at them!

I certainly look forward to seeing this stoped and a court injunction being issued.

Why and how was it voted on and all commissioners weren't present?

Should have been a public vote opinion!!!! Should be an injunction filed to do a public vote from the tax payers. Then everyone will have a chance to voice their vote!!!!

My husband and I was married in front of this beautiful monument in 1994! Thank God I have some beautiful pictures of it with my 3 year old sitting in front of it. It is a shame what has happened to this country!

And I can almost guarantee you that not one person who says remove it even know the meaning of the statue,or why just about every town in Ga.has one

Another instance where the people don't get a say. They pulled that crap years ago when they changed our flag.

And the commissioners should have to pay every dollar to have it removed "to a place well traveled and in public", not a freaking graveyard.

They need to be removed from office immediately! They don’t care about anyone but themselves
